I recently built a new system and everything had been working fine but recently it won''t recognize my camera/usb when it''s connected. It had worked originally but now -- although it beeps when plugging/unpluggin the usb cable -- nothing shows up on the computer at all. My wife mentioned that she had canceled out of something once when she plugged it in and it wouldn''t work after that, but I can''t figure out what it was she would have canceled or how to reset it. System information: Windows 7 pro i5-2500k HD 6950 1tb spinpoint f3 8gb 1333 ram The camera is a cannon powershot sx-130 is, if that matters. This is the same for every usb port on the computer. Other devices (ipod, for example) are able to use the same usb ports with no problems and the camera works just fine on other computers. As a side issue, can you plug usb 2.0 devices into a 3.0 port? Other devices work just fine in all the ports. It''s just the camera, and just on this machine -- although it had worked in the past. @ mubin: I haven''t seen any ''mass storage'' options on the camera. I normally just use the camera as an external drive rather than mess with whatever lame software they''ve bundled to download the pictures for you. Is it possible that the computer has been told (due to my wife clicking on the wrong thing, for example) to ignore the camera when it''s plugged in? Would it help to uninstall the USB controller/HUB under device manager and then plug the camera into the port and have it reset whatever drivers it needs? If so, is there a way to tell which physical port corresponds to which controller/hub under device manager? If you use the camera as an external drive then it is set as mass storage and it is use as other usb flash drive. Your computer will no longer detect your camera as a camera but as a usb flash drive. So there should have no problem and there is no way that computer has been told to ignore the camera. I never seen such thing. I think your wife might cancel the auto-play feature for the camera. Check for it. As you say your computer beep when you plug your camera & other device works fine in the same port, that means there is no problem in your computer''s usb port. You can see which usb root hub working for your device only when you plug the device in device manager. Give a try with your cannon soft. See what happen. I''m not trying to be difficult but this is missing the problem. Despite the computer beeping when the camera is plugged in nothing happens on the computer -- no new external drive is listed, no message shows up (usually I would expect something like ''new usb device detected''), and that cannon software says something useless like, ''camera not attached''. Autoplay not working does not bother me -- I wouldn''t mind autoplay being disabled system wide as it always seems like more of a nuisance than a help -- the issue is that the camera is not being detected at all. I''ve been loading the pictures on to an old laptop in the meantime, with no problems, but that''s not a reasonable workaround considering this is a newly-built system. I really can''t think of what to try? Is there a way to reset the usb drives so that they have will reconfigure devices as they are plugged in for the ''first time''? It''s been a while since I''ve had time to try anything but this afternoon I uninstalled all ATI drivers and ran driver sweeper then installed the newest ATI drivers. Nothing changed. Under device manager nothing has a yellow question mark or flag. The camera still makes a noise when being plugged in but other than that nothing happens on the computer; no pop-up detecting new hardware, no new drive listed under my computer, and the camera itself stays in camera mode when normally it would switch to some sort of transfer mode. To reiterate -- the problem is only on this computer since the camera works just fine with my laptop and the USB ports work just fine as well (ipod commonly used in the same port every day). Also, this camera worked for a while but something happened and it''s no longer showing up. Does anyone have any idea? As I said, I''ve downloaded the software from canon (same as what is on the cd that came with the camera) but it''s just viewing software and the computer (including the viewer) cannot find the camera. I''m thinking that the problem is the MTP USB device -- that is what''s listed under the camera properties in device driver. I get an access denied error when I try to update the drivers though. Several reboots with new change to that. Cannon''s website says it doesn''t need a driver to work, which is why I think it must be a generic driver (as above) that''s missing/has problems. I''m a little surprised that every other usb device works just fine, though. One other thing -- I''m using Comodo firewall; is there a way that that could have accidentally been set to block the camera and if so how would I unblock it? We have the same problem you have and I am following this thread in hope of a solution as well. We just updated to Window 7 (x64) We have a Canon SX120 IS - Canon website says no driver required, when I let Window 7 - update drivers we get an ''MTP USB Device - Access denied'' Error Message We have Comodo Firewall, and when I plugged the camera in, the Comodo Firewall came up and I hit ''Block'' by accident We turned off Comodo Firewall but that didn''t solve the problem Does Comodo Block files on the computer even if its turned off? Hi have a similar problem with a usb inspection camera that will work automatically on stand alone computers. First time into those comuputers it loaded drivers automatically and then opened a window showing the real time image however plugging it into our windows 7 64bit lap top it beeped showing the usb was working, automatically searched for drivers and loaded them but that was it. Can''t see it in my computer but shows up in device manager. Run auto driver check and says all ok. Click Uninstall and then replug in and driver search loads again. Unplug usb and icon on device manager disappears plug it back in and up it comes again. I don''t think it is a problem with your camera specifically and other threads say similar things with different usb items. Eg external hard drives other brand cameras but no one seems to have a definitive answer. Is it to do with the 64 bit tech as the stand alones are prob 32 bit. Cheers Steve. Came across this thread while searching for an answer to this problem. Got my Canon EOS Rebel XT back from being cleaned and wouldn''t work when I connected/usb to my Laptop (though it had before). Also closed a box after choosing what I thought was the right answer. Went to Canon''s site and they don''t have drivers for Windows 7 (64x) OS so went to Microsoft and typed ''make my canon camera work in Windows 7 (64x)'' into search. This is what they had to say: - - - - - - - - - - ( Q: Windows 7 will not recognize my Canon Rebel xt camera, but easily accepts the Canon PowerShot Point and shoot as well as the Fuji Film Fine Pix camera. The memory disk for the xt is a Compact Flash Disk while the others use the smaller SD disk. So, without having to use a card reader, is there a work around?) A: Change the setting in menu > the last icon > communication > change from PC to print/ptp and you will be able to communicate again with the camera - - - - - - - - - - Changed the setting on my camera, connected through usb and it loaded the correct driver and asked how to offload photos. Made my selection and nothing happened so I turned the camera off and on again. My photos are downloading right now. Hope this can help someone out there. Hi, I read through this whole thread and my issue is very similar but I couldn''t figure out an answer. I am running XP. When I plug in either of my two cameras (Both Canon, Powershot 110 HS and EOS Rebel XSi) I hear the tone of a new USB device, but the camera''s are not seen by the computer or by my software which does not see any cameras connected. When I plugged in my external HD, it was recognized and worked fine. Up until today, both Cameras were recognized when I plugged in the USB connection and I happily downloaded my pictures, but I cannot figure out what changed. I have gone through my device manager and there are no devices with warnings or errors, my USB Root Hub devices all are showing as functioning correctly. The only thing I have done recently was to disable a number of my startup processes running MSConfig in order to speed up my startup, but after some review of those items, I was not able to find anything that could possibly have done this at least with my limited experience. I''ve had this yesterday and today, having been OK for months. Yesterday, it just started installing the device driver after switching the camera on and off. Today, that would not work. But I found the camera in device manager under portable devices and observed the yellow warning triangle etc. I right clicked on it and unistalled. Switching off and on then caused the driver to be installed yet again and downloads worked. I''m wondering if it was a permanent solution. Hope so, but at least if it happens again I have a method to try. This worked for my camera (Fuji finepix) and my usb flash drives that were also not recognized. Symptoms: USB shows in the device manager (right click on my computer and click manage, devices) either ''Unknown USB device'' or ''name of USB hard drive manufacturer'' both of which have the yellow! Next to them saying they aren''t installed correctly. Resolution: Right click on the device in the device manager that shows it isn''t installed, click update driver software, enter this location assuming your C drive is your main drive ''C:\Windows\winsxs'' and ensure the box is checked to include subfolders and hit ok. It should reinstall immediately and show up as a new drive in ''My Computer'' You may have to uninstall the device first, replug it back in and then run through the above steps. Not and answer, but I''m having the same problem with my Canon G7. The first time I plugged ot in the ''device driver'' apparently loaded OK. I download files.Later when I plugged the camera in again.noithing! Eventually I restored the PC from a backup to prior to the original install, and then OK. The driver installed, I download files. Then later.nothing! It seems that something is killing the camera drivers at some point. I checked the firewall and I have the Canon bits OK''d, so I''m unclear what''s going on. My other camera (Nikon) also has stopped linking. Both work fine on the laptop.? I can manually install MTP USB (in device manager) and it all works fine. However if I reboot the problem comes back. I beleive that the system is not initiallising MTP USB at boot-time. Maybe in the SERVICES there is something that''s disabled? Anyone got any suggestions? UPDATE: SOLVED! The problem was with a SERVICES entry; WUDFSVC (Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework) which should be running all the time and set as Automatic start.it wasn''t! In the event I had to modify the registry entries for WUDFSVC (I think I had three) and find the START mode entry and modify them to (2) (automatic). They had got set to (3) (manual). Noelle -------------------------------------------------- CANON stopped supporting the REBEL-XT years ago. The old driver (the last they produced for the XT) will not work correctly but you can get it to work by uninstalling the driver from device manger and then reinstalling the driver. Then the window explorer file manager will pop up showing the device. ( XT must be in ''Print/PTP'' mode). After each drive reinstall when the computer is powered off and powered up again Windows will not communicate with the XT again so each time you have to uninstall the driver with the XT on and plugged in, then turn the XT when plugged in off and on again and Windows will see it, give a fresh driver install now seeing the XT again. It is a real pain each time you power up your computer and want to use your CANON REBEL--XT to uninstall the driver and then reinstall the driver each time but it works. Copyright © 2017 Group, Inc. That is one of the many reasons why you should learn how to install Canon PIXMA MP500 driver on mac as well as how to install Canon PIXMA MP500 driver on Windows. These two are the commonly used operating systems and knowing how to do a few things here and there on them is certainly a big plus. Here, we’re going to help you understand as much as possible on how you will install you Canon PIXMA MP500 printer and its drivers on the two mentioned OS – Mac and Windows. Important things to note Windows has been termed as very friendly in terms of plug-and-play. Therefore, adding a printer to it is not really an uphill task, especially if you do have the basic computer skills. Many people have described the process as very short involving switching on your computer or PC as well as the printer that you want to install and then moving on to connect the two. You will need a cable that links the printer and your computer. Immediately you connect the two, your computer should be able to detect the printer. On the other hand, once the computer has detected the printer, it will require you to install the drivers first before you can proceed to use it. That is why if you do have a computer, you really need to understand this short but critical process of how to install Canon PIXMA MP500 driver on windows or how to install Canon PIXMA MP500 driver on mac, in the event that you are using the mac OS. The process of installing the printer’s drivers normally takes just a few seconds, particularly if your machine is fast. However, suppose you want to connect your printer to a network or it is giving you some trouble in installing it; you might need to do some configurations in order to successfully finish the whole process. The following are important steps that you will need to take in order to successfully install your printer as well as its drivers on either mac or windows. Check out the compatibility or the printer with your OS If you are using windows RT, for instance, you need to understand that there are a few devices that are not compatible with it. Therefore, you will have to check from the manufacturer’s site. But in this case, the Canon PIXMA MP500 printer is fully compatible with windows as well as mac and, as such, installing the drivers will not give you a headache. Go through the documentation Read your printer’s documentation clearly and fully understand what needs to be done. Don’t assume things. That is especially because of the fact that there are some printers that you will only need to plug them into your PC and you will be good to go. However, some will require you to install the drivers before plugging in your printer. As a result, that is why it is usually recommended to carefully read the quick-start guide or the manual in order to get the procedure that is recommended for installation. Plug in your printer This is the point where you use your cable to connect your printer via the USB port in your computer. In most cases, a computer will automatically detect the printer, particularly if you’ve already installed the drivers. Remember that you should never plug or connect your printer to the USB hub because the printer will not work. Searching for the printer In the unlikely event that your computer will not detect the printer automatically, you will have to search it manually. Here, the process is equally easy whereby you will need to open the control panel in your computer, go ahead and select the “Devices and Printers”, choose the “View devices and printers”. At this juncture, mac or windows will display all the devices that are connected to your computer. Click on the “Add a printer” option, and then select the printer that you want to add and you will be good to go. Filed Under: Primary Sidebar. For the record: I did it. This doesnt mean it wont work in XP, however I dont think getting that printer to work on 64bit is feasible. The move to 64bit ended driver support on a lot of printers/scanners/etc much newer than the BJ200. #2 fralexandr. Jan 10, 2014 Have a Canon DR2050C 3.05 scanner, using Windows 7 (64bit) Installed driver from. Introduction Canon EOS digital cameras are the most used among astrophotographers thanks to low noise and avaiability of many additions, such as third party softwares, modifications, advices. Unfortunately Canon decided not to support older EOS models on newer operating systems. The problem arises with Windows7 64-bit, where the WIA drivers of cameras such as 350D and 5D are not available. So if you change your PC, do you need also to throw away your old Canon DSLR, even if it works perfectly? No, the solution exist and is named Windows XP Mode. This is an additional software that can be freely installed on Windows7 (32 or 64 bit), but only if your version is Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate. You cannot install if your version is Starter or Home Premium, you must update you operating system before. Step 1: determine your Windows version To determine your version, click ''Start'', go to ''Control Panel'', click ''System and Security'' and then ''System''. Or simply click ''Start'' and type ''System'' (or the translation in your language, i.e. In Italian ''Sistema''). Then press ''Enter''. You''ll get a windows like this one with the needed information: here you can read (in Italian) that the system is Windows 7 Professional, and below you can read it is a 64-bit system. Moreover you can read if your system is updated to a Service Pack (here you find it updated to SP1). Step 2: download the needed software (Windows XP Mode) Go to and click on ''Get Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC now''. Select your system and language, in the example below ''Windows7 Professional 64 bit'' and ''Italian''. When both are selected, the 4 steps below will appear. You simply have to: • download Windows XP Mode (about 500 MB) • download Windows Virtual PC (a few MB) • if your system is not updated to Service Pack 1, you need to update before installing the two downloaded files. Step 3: install ''Windows XP Mode'' Execute the two downloaded files, first the bigger one and the the other. Wait a few minutes for the operation to complete. At the end restart your PC. Installing Windows XP Mode Installing Windows Virtual PC Step 4: running ''Windows XP Mode'' After rebooting, click ''Start'' and then type ''Windows XP Mode'' and click on the corresponding icon. Then a very familiar window will appear with Windows XP running inside! Step 5: install WIA driver for your Canon DSLR The C:\ hard drive of the Windows XP Mode is not containing the data on your true C:\ drive! Inside Windows XP Mode, you have to open ''Windows Explorer'' (in Italian: ''Esplora Risorse'') and browse to the true drive with the driver. For me the PC name is ''Principale'' and the drivers are in the drive ''D:\'', so I''ll browse to ''D on Principale'' and I''ll search for the ''WIA drivers'' I''ve saved in the ''Software'' directory. If you don''t have any WIA driver, you can find them on the original CD or online on the Canon website. Simply google '' WIA driver 350D'' for your 350D, or any other old camera model. The you need NOT to install the software, as you may have problems with the ''InstallShield'' software. What you need to do is simply to copy the WIA driver executables on your local drive ''C:\''. I''ve copied the drivers for my Canon EOS 350D and 5D on the ''C:\TEMP'' folder. Finally install the drivers following the standard procedure. Step 6: now connect the camera! Now you can connect your camera to the pc. Windows 7 will find the new hardware, but will not find drivers. Don''t worry. Wait a few seconds for finishing the automatic procedure. Finally look on the top part of Windows XP Mode, anc click ''USB'' and then on ''Canon Digital Camera'' Then a window will appear, and click ''Cancel'' (in Italian ''Annulla''). Don''t open the canon interface, you''ll usually use a third party software. Step 7: install any other software you need Now you need to install any software you need to control your camera, such as ''Maxim DL'' or ''DSLR Remote Pro''. Even if you''ve yet installed on the main operating system (Win7), you''ll need to reinstall again in WinXP. You''ll need to install also any other driver or software needed to control additional features, such as telescopes (via ascom drivers) or guider CCDs, filter wheels, and so on. Exactly like on a native WinXP pc. Step 8: enjoy! Now you can test and ''admire'' your older model camera working on Windows 7 64-bit!!!:-) HTML Editing and Publishing by Lorenzo Comolli. Production began with the Hansa Canon on the Leica III format through WWII. Post war Canon resumed production of pre-war designs in early 1946 with the JII viewfinder and the S1 rangefinder. But in late 1946 they introduced the SII which departed from the Leica design by offering a combined viewfinder/rangefinder system, reducing the windows on the front of the camera to two. However, in most other respects these cameras remained visually similar to the Leica III. • ( 1933) Nippon Kogaku (now Nikon) provided Seiki Kogaku with funding, Nikkor lenses, rangefinders, and technical assistance • (1936) Known today as the ''Original Canon'' The viewfinder moved to the top of the camera, differing from the Leica • (1936) Omiya Trading Co marketed original Canon with the Hansa name above the Canon name on the top • (1939) Standard model. The word “Hansa” disappeared from the brand name, and was replaced with just “Canon” • (1939) New Standard. This was the first Canon camera with a swing-open camera back for film loading. Upper end models had a new three-mode viewfinders and winding triggers. • ( 1956) • (1957) • (1957) • (1957) • (1957) • (1958) • (1958) • (1958) • (1958) • (1959) • (1961) Lower priced simpler camera • (1961) Including a built-in meter and improved viewfinder system. SLR cameras [ ] (See also:) [ ] Canon developed and produced the Canon R lens mount for film SLR cameras in 1969. The FL lens mount replaced R-mounts in 1964. • ( 1959) - Planned as Canon''s first professional-class SLR camera body, but it was not successful. Available with builtin motor-drive option (not detachable). • ( 1960) - An upgrade with 1/2000 shutter speed (up from 1/1000) • (1960) - simplified Canonflex without the interchangeable prism/viewer • (1962) - A redesign of the RP with builtin metering and a lower profile prism. Offered with an f/1.2 58mm lens option Details -mount [ ] Canon developed and produced the standard for from 1964 to replace the lens-mount standard. The standard replaced FL-mounts in 1971. • ( 1964) • (1964) • (1965) • (1966) • (1966) • (1968) -mount [ ] In 1969 Canon introduced an economy camera/lens system where the rear three elements (in two groups) were built-on-to the camera, and several front element options could be interchanged. This had been used by Zeiss-Ikon in their mid-level cameras of their Contaflex series, and by Kodak in early interchangeable lenses for the top-end Retina series (later going to full lenses). Canon offered four lens options: 35mm f/3.5, 50mm f/1.8, 95mm f/3.5, and 1255mm f/3.5. Through the lens metering was center weighted and automatic exposure was shutter speed priority. Only two cameras were offered and the line was not successful. • ( 1969) • (1972) improved auto flash features -mount [ ] Canon developed and produced the standard for from 1971 to replace the standard. The FD mount had two variants – original lenses used a breechlock collar to mount whilst later versions used a standard bayonet twist lock with a short twist action. The EF standard superseded FD-mounts in 1987. Ceased to produce -mount cameras in 1994. F series [ ] • (1971) - Reputed as Canon''s first successful professional-class SLR camera body. Canon also used EOS for its SLR cameras. All current and cameras produced by Canon today use the system. Canon introduced this system in 1987 along with the standard. The last non-EOS based SLR camera produced by Canon, the of 1986, is widely regarded as the template for the EOS line of camera bodies, although the T90 employed the older lens-mount standard. This leads to a large number of models, all belonging to the same family, but possibly incompatible to some degree, and also makes it difficult to ascertain whether a device is unique or part of an existing family. The software driver filename will often use the family designation. Some MP devices have fax capability (MP740).
